Synapse uses several kinds of therapy.

EMDR is the therapy that has been found to be most effective for trauma and PTSD and it has a strong evidence base.  It is also effective for anxiety based problems, phobias, some kinds of depression, anger management, bereavement, including complex traumatic bereavement and many other problems.

Philip Dutton was first employed in Scotland as a clinical psychologist in January 1979.

After three years he began to manage his own department and shortly afterwards he was promoted to Head of Department of Child and Family Clinical Psychology (where he also ran a maternity clinic) and remained until he left the NHS (after 25 years) in 2004 to run his own private clinic in Central Scotland and Edinburgh.

He was an honorary lecturer for 10 years at Edinburgh University where he taught on the Clinical Psychology Doctorate course.  His special interests there were psychosomatic disorders and complex bereavement.
